Which Outer Banks airport should you fly into?
If your destination is the central Outer Banks — Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, or the Wright Brothers National Memorial — First Flight Airport (KFFA) puts you within walking distance of the Memorial and a short drive to the beach. There is no fuel on the field, so plan to top off at Dare County Regional (KMQI) in Manteo before arriving. KMQI is the closest fuel stop and is just 7 nautical miles south of First Flight.
Visitors heading to the northern Outer Banks — Corolla, Duck, or Currituck County — should consider Currituck County Regional Airport (KONX), which has a 5,500 ft runway and a full-service FBO. For Hatteras Island, Billy Mitchell Airstrip (KHSE) at Frisco is the closest field to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. For Ocracoke Island, Ocracoke Island Airport (W95) is the only way to skip the ferry.
